Support, education and training

Natural slate is the first choice for many architects and builders because it always looks good and its installation, maintenance and life cycle costs make it an extremely cost-effective roofing material. Its versatility is highly prized as it provides an outstanding finish on any shape, pitch and space. In addition the different shapes that slates can be produced in, for customers around the world, allow for a virtually unlimited array of visual effects that would be impossible to obtain with other materials.

Once installed correctly Cupa slate can last longer than a lifetime. Geographical location, environmental conditions, the pitch of the roof and the size of the slate, etc. all play an important part in the correct use of natural slate. This is why Cupa offers a range of literature, education and training opportunities to support those working with natural slate.

Technical literature and advice
Cupa’s technical literature, which is designed to provide guidance on the specification and installation of slate roofing, has been developed to be fully compliant with current British regulations.

Your Cupa Area Manager is also on hand to offer advice and support in the process of slate specification.

Training
Cupa works with colleges in the UK which run specialist roofing courses, by supporting elements of the curriculum. For example, accredited training programmes might be jointly run or, for practical elements of certain courses, Cupa supplies slate free of charge.

Cupa and Newcastle College, one of only eight colleges in the country to offer specialist roofing courses, have joined forces to run an accredited training programme, which focuses on working with natural slate. The programme will be used by Newcastle College in conjunction with the roofing syllabus for Level 2 NVQ qualification students, which has long been a popular course. Cupa has developed the training programme ‘Specifying Natural Roofing Slate’ in response to growing demand for natural slate as a roofing material in the UK.
